Last year I bought a used MEADE telescope. I do astro-photography and was really happy to get this telescope. But after some weeks of euphoria the LCD display of the controller showed only strange characters. A few days later it stopped showing anything. I learned that many people have this issue - it seems to be a design weakness of the #497 controller. There is only one source for a replacement part and I ordered one for a lot of money to find out that it also does not work.
Frustrated I searched for alternative solutions. I anyway have a laptop with me when watching the sky. So it was consequent to make a virtual controller. The idea for AutoSTAR_remote was born.
In the meantime I found Astroberry and I plan to use it for controlling my telescope and taking the photos. Ekos, the field solver and PHD2 are a huge quality step. So it is clear that AutoSTAR_remote must also run on Astroberry.
Today I released version 1.1.0 which runs on Raspberry Pi.
I hope you will find this small piece of software useful.
