🧭 TL;DR
🧩 Problem
Currently, Overseerr admins can only create custom discovery sliders using built-in filters like Genres, Keywords, Studios, or Networks.
There’s no way to create a slider based on a curated TMDB list — whether personal or public.
That means if you want to highlight something like “The Top 100 Movies of the 21st Century” or “Best Sci-Fi Classics”, you can’t do it directly within Overseerr without external tools or workarounds (like Plex collections).
This makes it impossible to showcase hand-picked, ranked, or thematic media collections in a native way.
🎯 Use Case
As an admin, I want to feature a specific TMDB list as a discovery slider —
for example, the New York Times “Top 100 Movies of the 21st Century.”
I’d like the slider to display these movies in the same order they appear on TMDB,
which typically corresponds to the order they were added to the list (ascending).
Ideally, future versions could include an option to choose different sorting types —
but even just supporting the “Added Date (asc)” order would already make curated lists fully usable for discovery.
💡 Proposed Solution
Expand the Add Custom Slider feature to include support for TMDB Lists with sorting options.
1️⃣ New Slider Type: “TMDB List”
Add a new option under
Settings → Discover → Add Custom Slider → Type → List2️⃣ Input Field for TMDB List ID
Admins can paste a TMDB List ID (e.g.
8209876).3️⃣ No Extra Auth Required
The list is public
4️⃣ Sorting Options
Admins can control display order:
5️⃣ Display Behavior
The slider should behave like any existing one (e.g., “Popular Films”), showing clickable posters that lead to the standard request page.
Additionally, clicking on the slider title should ideally open a dedicated listing view (e.g., /discover/tmdb-list/:id) displaying the full list in grid form — similar to how existing routes like /discover/trending or /discover/upcoming behave.
If implementing a dedicated route isn’t feasible right away, simply disabling the clickable title or linking it to TMDB’s public list URL would be an acceptable fallback.
🧠 Technical Reference
Public TMDB lists can be fetched via:
Each item already includes the necessary metadata (media type, title, release date, order).
💬 Community Impact
This feature would unlock huge flexibility for admins and richer discovery for users.
It’s simple, native, and leverages Overseerr’s existing TMDB integration.
