Platform and CPU power limits - WHEA errors?

I have a 2022 G14 GA402RJ.

It has:

• AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS mobile processor (8-core / 16-thread, 16 MB cache, up to 4.9 GHz max boost) (35 W max TDP)
• AMD Radeon RX 6700S w/ 8 GB GDDR6 (80 W max TDP)

I got the specs off Google searches - I don't know if they're right.

I was experiencing crashing in games, and I think I narrowed it down to GPU heat problems. When I was troubleshooting, I used G-Helper to limit the platform power to 115 W and the CPU power to 35 W. I also disabled CPU Boost (in all profiles).

I have since bought a cooling pad and repasted. The system is much more stable, but I still get intermittent reboots, albeit much less frequently (maybe once in a week or two) - as opposed to after a few games of Dota at 120 Hz.

I still get WHEA errors in the Windows System Log, sometimes hundreds at a time:

After searching the registry and chasing down the GUID, it seemed to be tied to the dGPU. So I uninstalled and rolled back to the latest WHQL driver since I figured it would be the most stable and I'm not playing the newest games.

What seemed to get rid of the errors, though, was to have adequate cooling and not limit the power to the CPU or the platform. My question is this: What does the platform and CPU power limits do? Could setting these too low cause the errors I'm seeing? I'm beginning to think I should just run them both at full power.

I still have the CPU temp limit set to 90 deg C (even though I see the CPU temps go up to 96 deg C in HWINFO64).

I don't know if this would help anyone else, but I thought I ought to post this here to discuss further.

Those errors are not related anyhow to power limits :) It's something system / driver related. You can try to disable PCI Express power saving to see if it helps

As for power limits - it's how asus does them on all-AMD devices.

• Platform - is a total power limit shared between dGPU and CPU
• CPU - is pretty much CPU only power limit :)

I'm pretty sure that the errors are related to the dGPU driver, but I was wondering if there were possible errors due to the dGPU not getting enough power?

I'll check out the link you sent - I did see it mentioned for a PC motherboard, but I couldn't find the settings in my BIOS on my laptop.

EDIT: The link you sent was different than the one I Googled. I'll figure out how to get it working for Windows 11 and report back. Thanks again for the quick reply.

EDIT2: I changed the power settings in the Windows control panel after I found them. It was causing errors/crashes especially after waking from Idle, so it's probably related to what you linked to. I'll change my power limits back and keep an eye on it.
