Yes, I would like this as well. I have an existing library with proper filenames but not MusicBrainz tags. If this feature were implemented the migration would be easy.

(Similarly, I have accurate Album, Track name, Performer, etc. tags, but no MusicBrainz tags. It would be convenient to somehow make use of these as fallback match data.)

I think this actually relates to #84 , another feature I am hoping for. The overlap is how other data is used to match against MusicBrainz data.

(As expressed in #84) Right now, IIUC, if there is no MusicBrainz ID tag, wrtag has its own heuristic to find a good matching release (album). But then there is the problem of if one doesn't have all the tracks in a release: having half an album with perfect metadata and file names will not yield a good matching score. If wrtag wants to be "smarter" with its matching, it would use a combination of track metadata + track names for the matching calculation, too.

Similarly, as expressed here, if tracks do not have appropriate tags but have accurate filenames (and approximately what would appear in the tags), wrtag doesn't make use of the filenames.

Maybe I'm off about wrtag's matching logic, but I think the idea is to improve its matching algorithm? I'm not sure how reasonable this is to implement and maintain though... but it seems in-scope for the project: "fast automated music tagging."

A note about my use case, in case it helps the maintainer: I am currently trying to experiment with various options to transition my music library from YouTube Music. Right now the best YouTube downloader I've found is yubal, which downloads by albums or playlists and tags according to the YouTube Music metadata. As such, the audio files downloaded via yubal contain both accurate filenames and accurate tags. The result is a directory structure of ARTIST/ALBUM/TRACK. The only issue is that there are no MusicBrainz tags, since (i) YouTube Music does not have that metadata and (ii) a lot of the YouTube Music tracks/releases are not in the MusicBrainz database.

Consequently, in an ideal world, I would have wrtag utilize the existing filenames and tags to make some smart inferences about which MusicBrainz release corresponds to a given album downloaded by yubal. (This is also why I'd like #84: although yubal creates a directory structure organized by artist and album, my playlists do not contain all the tracks for every release they span across. So wrtag sees incomplete releases and does not match the right MusicBrainz releases.)
