[BUG] Copying recovery password adds additional space

Current Behavior

Copying the recovery password by using the copy-button adds an additional space character between words in some cases. It is working for me, but not for my friend on her device. At least session desktop will not accept the password as a consequence of this. The phone and app are both set to use german as the language.

Expected Behavior

Copy a working phrase to the clipboard.

Copy the recovery password by using the button in the app and paste it somewhere

Can you give some more details on what flow is happening between copying and pasting, are you copying via iOS and then using the shared clipboard on MacOS to paste it into the desktop client, or is there some other application you are pasting to first and then recopying that password and pasting it into Session desktop?

The original way was copying the string out of the session app and into a password manager. But after finally noticing why the windows app won't accept the string I also tried pasting into the ios notes app and the space at the end was also there. This was only the case with my friends app. When I did the same thing with my recovery string, even with the same version of password manager and the same app and ios version, there was no trailing space.

Is the user using a third party keyboard? If not can you ask them to go into their iOS settings and change their Keyboard settings to turn off “Smart Punctuation” , “Auto-Correction” and “Predictive Text” and retry to see if the problem persists? They can turn these back on after testing, just trying to work out where the issue might be.

Either way we should probably update Session Desktop to prune additional spaces from recovery passwords which would resolve the issue even if the core problem on iOS persists.

As far as I am aware there was no 3rd party keyboard used or even installed. I try to get more information about that and also see if they are willing to test again with the options disabled.

The idea to prune trailling spaces from the recovery codes looks like a good thing to me, maybe not only for the desktop version, but for all clients.

I will update this ticket as soon as I was able to get in touch with my guinea pig ;)
