Current Behavior

Not receiving push notifications when the app is in the background.
Every notifications arrive when the app is opened for a few seconds, and not every time (can wait hours for some, but that’s usual).

Expected Behavior

Push notifications should arrive as soon as possible.

Steps To Reproduce

1. App in the background or not opened.
2. Receive a message, but don’t open the app.
3. wait for the push notification.
4. Never receive the push notification, except when you open the app.

I'm adding this because it just happened, another device (which runs iOS 18.6.2 and iOS 2.14.7) on the same account received the push notification as soon as it should be (1 minute after the message was sent).
No push notification at all on the device with iOS 26.1, and the notification arrived about 2 minutes after the one with iOS 18.6.2.

I tried to uninstall and install again the app on the iOS 26.1 and I receive push notifications, but I only have one conversation (as there is one person talking to me at the moment).

The iOS 26.1 is a new device (two days old) and had all the conversations added back at once (but empty), could it be an overflow of messages waiting to arrive and preventing the new push notifications?
Note that even after waiting a day there wasn’t anything new in the messages that got added so I didn’t think about mentioning it.

All the previous conversations were added randomly when I was talking to someone the first time, I don’t know if it will happen again or not. Contact list is the same.

Edit: the full contact conversation list is now there again, and the push notifications don’t work anymore. I only receive them when I am inside the app. I don’t see the app growing in size in the settings, and the conversations don’t seem to populate with chats from less than 14 days ago. Would the problem be that it fails to retrieve the previous messages and can’t receive push notifications?

Session nodes only retain messages for 14 days, so any conversation history older than that wouldn’t have been restored when you recovered your account. Your contacts will still appear, though, and you can continue messaging existing contacts as normal.

As for the push notification issue: the 2.14.8 release was intended to improve reliability for iOS 26 users, so it’s unexpected that notifications stopped after you upgraded. Since they seem to be working again now, please let us know if the problem returns. Would be good if we can get logs from your device if it stops working again

It happened again, no push notifications unless the app is in the foreground, but it happened only once all the (empty) conversations loaded into the app.

Would deleting all data fix this? If needed, I could do it, if it keeps the same id for me as before though…

Edit: Even worse now, new conversations appear for a few minutes then disappear in the iOS 26.1 phone, and I don't receive push notifications anymore even in the foreground.

Edit2: looks like nothing is updating anymore. I receive new messages on the older phone, but nothing even for hours on the new that has the issue. I’m sending a second comment with the updated log just in case.
