Currently the DSI spec allows any numbers of integers inside an edition number and each integer is of unbounded size. Hidos places no restriction.
I proposal that Hidos and the DSHM toolkit manual should require no more than 4 integers in an edition number and integers can not be more than 4 digits.
I don't think I've ever seen semantic versions longer than 4 components. I can image an author wanting to use year as an integer, but needing more than 4 digits just seems like edition number abuse. So to keep things simple, cap at 4 integers and 4 digits.
