Total memory is only 638M, while the wiki introduction claims 1G. Is this normal?

This is expected behavior. Part of the system memory is reserved as CMM (Contiguous Memory) for video encoding, so the OS does not get the full 1 GB. That’s why you see around ~638 MB available by default.

You can reclaim more OS memory by adjusting the CMM size. Please follow these steps:

1. Update the software to v1.2.10 (this is a required prerequisite).
2. Wait for the system to finish updating and reboot.
3. Edit the following file:

/boot/configs

4. Change maix_memory_cmm value to 200 (200 MB is currently the minimum supported value).
5. Reboot the system again.

After this, you should get approximately ~755 MB of OS memory available.
