Invalid Credentials: You have to be logged in to perform this action

I am trying to use the v2 of the Python API by using Usage instructions from the readme and from simple get requests like here. Both attempts are made in python.

Here is the code for the second part:

desk = 'randomname.freshdesk.com'
desk_URL = 'https://' + desk
auth_deets = (key, 'x')
cat_query = r.get(desk_URL + "/api/v2/tickets", 
                  auth = auth_deets)
print(cat_query.text)

And the output in each instance is saying You have to be logged in to perform this action

The account is managed by someone else, and I am just creating an automation script for analysis. None of the solutions of converting the base64 format in the second link have helped. Not sure how to proceed. Any help is appreciated.
