I get the error message above when I try to download Yarn, not sure what to make of it. Any suggestions for how to successfully download Yarn? Looks like I may be missing some part of the setup. Thank you!

try to run your command with sudo e.g. sudo npm i -g corepack

Hi! Please don't use sudo or administrative privileges, there's no need.

It appears the default path for a local installation (or prefix) is not set properly, that's why it's complaining about permissions.

Will you please show me the output of the following command?
↪ cat ~/.npmrc

In advance, you can modify the contents of that file, to this
prefix=/home/<your_username>/.npm-packages

Or just run this and try again the installation command from the beginning:
echo "prefix=/home/andrewverbinnen/.npm-packages" > ~/.npmrc

I'm guessing you want to install corepack globally, and not locally. Would you re-execute the command with --verbose at the end to see where it fails?

its normally using the -g flag. It's already in your npm i -g corepack --verbose command

So as an update, the sudo command worked. Needed to work in the terminal as an admin. Thank you!

I guess for Node.js >=16.10 you just need to do

corepack enable

and then try

yarn --version
