Having trouble connecting to Ganache

I'm trying to run the code from ethers.js to connect to Ganache:

And I get this error:

I thought maybe its because port 7545 is closed but its open and listening. I allowed connections to be made on the port. Any idea why I would be getting this error?

At first glance, is providers not missing in ethers.providers.JsonRpcProvider() ?

The only thing i did was add providers to ethers.JsonRpcProvider()
which is strange because it's never worked that smooth before. 🤔

I see now that the ethers in the git clone from Patricks online project was only ethers 5.5.3.
Otherwise i used your files in place. and created my own abi / bin files.

Now I updated to later version of ethers. left as is the const provider = new ethers.JsonRpcProvider("HTTP://192.168.100.94:7545")
It worked perfect again. Never received any error message.

So when I ran yarn node in terminal, used the http://127.0.0.1:8545/ that came with the node. And transactions were going through.

Interesting. Ganache is running on the exact same Node for me. I'll try connecting to all the other interfaces you mentioned as well. I tried reinstalling node_modules and ethers as we talked about earlier but perhaps I need to reinstall Ganache. I'll get on this as soon as I can. Thanks again for your help. It's much appreciated.

No matter what I try, I'm getting no connection. I've reinstalled ethers, node_modules, and ganache. I've switched ports that Ganache is listening on and verified that Ganache was indeed listening on the specified port and that the port was open. I've verified that my firewall is not blocking connection. I'm still getting this error. I get this error with ethers 5.7.2 and ethers 6.1.0

I did git clone your repo. Ran everything, and it all worked. So the only time i got that same error, was when I used localhost:8545 address instead of the 127.0.0.1:8545. So I think it's in the computer firewall or ethereum JSON/RPC needs to be enabled. It got too late but want to try again tomorrow.

So if you go into hosts file , you'll see if it's setup for 127.0.0.8545 or whatever your localhost address is, and it'll show:
127.0.0.1 localhost and if it doesn't you can change it.

1. Open Notepad or any text editor as an administrator.
2. Click File -> Open and browse to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
3. Change the file type to "All Files".
4. Open the file named "hosts".
5. Look for an entry that maps "localhost" to an IP address. It should look like this: 127.0.0.1 localhost.
6. If the entry is missing or incorrect, add or edit it to look like the example above.
7. Save the file and try accessing "http://localhost:8545/" again.

It's in the hosts file as it should be. I was able to get it to connect through the WSL and wifi interface and I can see the transactions on Ganache for the contract created but the balance stays the same at 100.00. Not that that really matters I don't think, but I am able to get a contract made. I just can't connect through all interfaces or Loopback Pseudo interface 1.

I had the same issue and resolved it.
My problem was that my Ganache was running on Windows and I was trying to access from WSL.

For that to work, I needed to go to Ganache settings and change Host to WSL.

I tried your solution but went from this error message :
