[bluesky] logged-out visibility

"The Logged-Out Visibility option lets you limit who can see your profile and posts. If enabled, Bluesky will discourage showing your content to users who aren’t logged in. However, since Bluesky is an open platform, other apps and websites might still display your posts."

I'd like to understand what this setting is supposed to do in their mind, aside annoying fediverse people.
Are those post public or not ?
Also, is it a default or people actively search for it, to be toggled on ?
