Service var.set broken and do nothing after update to 0.15.3

Hello,
after update to 0.15.3 service var.set silently do nothing. Variable value and attributes not updated, and I don't see any error in log.
This bug was fixed in 0.15.2 and now it's rise again.
I see that
await self.async_update_ha_state(True) in async_set returned,
and if i change code to
self.async_write_ha_state()
all working again

I have the same experience, and above fix works for me.

I would guess this is related to "Restore attribute values if HA starts #112" which was broken by 0.15.2 and fixed by 0.15.3. Overall I've regressed to 0.15.0 to make both of these work.
