Store config in .git/config instead of environment #1188

Would it be possible to use "git config --local secrets.option value" as a way of setting config options for this
extension?
This would allow per project settings, like specifying separate homedirs for work, public and private projects so certain UID's don't accidentally end up in the wrong place.
In my case I have multiple uid's on the same key, but only want some of those e-mails publicly searchable, because some of them have mailboxes at the other end.
