Default URL for blog posts

We've been using the article content type (https://www.socallinuxexpo.org/node/add/article) for news/blog posts on the home page.
Currently content generated with this type exposes the node id in the url.

Since articles have an event attribute. could we use this to set a default url of /{event}/blog/{title} ?

The problem is the event is a multi-value field:

There's no way to programmatically decide which one to use (if more than one was chosen).

Also, it's not a required so there may be articles with no value set.

Thoughts on moving forward?

hmm. How is that field used now?

It's data that was migrated from the legacy site. It's not currently being used.

OK. My initial thought then would be make it a single value per post, which we would then use to filter which posts show up on which event years landing pages.

We dont need to go back and change the urls of existing posts but moving forward would be good to have the default be the year in the url.
