Change path dynamically from preferences

I want to be able to change the path of my socks.io server from the client dynamically (from the preferences). But when I set the path by socks.path(newPath), it doesn't change.

I played around a bit, and this code works the first time I call socks.path(newPath), but not the next times I do so.

const app = express();
const server = http.createServer(app);
const socket = new socketio.Server();
server.listen(port);

...

function onSomeEvent(newSocketPath) {
    socket.path(newSocketPath);
    socket.attach(server);
}

What am I missing? How can I do this?
