Forge Network License – Usage, Modification, and Attribution

This license applies to the entire OpenMark (hereafter “the Project”), published by Forge Network.

By using, copying, modifying, or redistributing this Project, you agree to the following terms:

1. Granted Rights

As long as you fully comply with this license:

  1. You may use the Project freely for personal or community.
  2. You may fork the Project (create copies, derivatives, or adaptations).
  3. You may modify the code, configuration, and assets (including icons).
  4. You may redistribute your modified versions, provided you respect attribution and non‑appropriation rules.

2. Prohibition of Appropriation

It is strictly forbidden to:

  1. Claim authorship of the original Project or imply that you are Forge Network.
  2. Remove or hide any mandatory Forge Network credits (see section 3).
  3. Erase the identity of the Project in a way that removes Forge Network as the original creator.
  4. Use misleading statements such as:
    • “Created by [YourName]”
    • “Original project by [YourOrganization]” when your work is clearly based on OpenMark.

You may state that your version is a fork, derivative, mod, port, or distribution based on this Project — but never that you are the original creator.

3. Mandatory Forge Network Credits

The following elements are mandatory and must never be removed:

  1. Main credit in the documentation:

    At minimum, your README (or main documentation) must include:

    This project is based on OpenMark, created by Forge Network (https://forgenet.fr).

  2. Protected textual mentions:

    The following must remain wherever they appear in the original files:

    • “Forge Network”
    • The official URL (e.g., https://forgenet.fr)
    • Any original credit sections naming the author or team

    You may add your own credits in addition, but not instead of the originals.

  3. NOTICE file:

    The provided NOTICE.md must remain in all distributions (forks, mods, repacks).
    You may append your own notes, but you may not remove the Forge Network section.

4. Customizing Names and Icons

You are allowed to:

  1. Rename the project in your fork, as long as:

    • you do not use “Forge Network” as your own brand;
    • you do not imply Forge Network authored your modified version;
    • you clearly state your project is based on or derived from OpenMark.
  2. Modify icons, logos, and visual assets, as long as:

    • you do not remove Forge Network logos marked as mandatory in BRANDING.md;
    • you do not use Forge Network logos to imply official endorsement.

5. Branding, Identity, and Confusion

  1. You may not use “Forge Network” as the primary name of your organization, product, or derivative.
  2. You may not imply that your fork is an official, certified, or endorsed version unless explicitly approved.
  3. You may not use the Project to impersonate or damage the reputation of Forge Network.

6. Compatibility With “Open Source”

Even if the Project is technically “open source” (source available, forkable, modifiable), this license adds specific requirements for attribution and non‑appropriation.

In short:

  • Yes, you may: fork, modify, redistribute, adapt.
  • No, you may not: remove credits, claim original authorship, erase Forge Network.

7. No Warranty

The Project is provided “as is”, without any warranty.
Forge Network is not liable for any damages resulting from its use.

8. Acceptance

Any use, copy, modification, fork, or distribution of the Project constitutes acceptance of this license.
