Deleting Model without deleting its associated media

Hi,
I'm trying to remove my models without deleting the associated media (due to a lack of backups on our "CDN")
so my question is, is there a way to transfer/detach the media from the model before deleting it? (I'm ok with leaving the media orphan / pointing to a non-existing model in the database)

also, does the media deletion still occur when we're soft-deleting?
