Use withCount() to count models with a certain state

Hello,
was wondering if anyone has an idea of how to count models according to state.

That is, using:

ModelClass::withCount('col_name_of_state')->get()

I want to have some statistics and currently a few thousand models are being instantiated when I think it's really not necessary.

If there were a relation defined, I could use the mentioned code.

Any clues?

Nevermind, I was trying to count the different states on the model and I realized it's not done like this.
