(@A:A):(@B:B) fails to parse

The colon operator only supports reference operands, but @ is not part of the reference grammar.

I tried adding a reference rule to allow for the @, but then the grammar has conflicts. I'm not clear on whether it's possible or reasonable to resolve the conflicts or whether a completely different path should be followed. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
