I recently migrated from spring 2.x.x to 3, now I am facing this issue which seems like many people are encountering. need help here !

Here is the weird part, my friend on a different machine is able to run the migrated code on his local with "no changes" in code or config.

We've indeed multiple tickets (#3616, #2787) reporting the same symptoms. However, we always asked for reproducer (and here, we also need a reproducer) to find out the cause. The other tickets are closed as invalid because we never received a reproducer that shows the problem and we would like to know what to fix and what causes the issue for you.

Hey, I was able to fix the issue by adding these dependencies on top of spring-boot-starter-data-jpa (3.5.4).

jakarta.transaction jakarta.transaction-api 2.0.1 compile jakarta.persistence jakarta.persistence-api 3.2.0 org.hibernate.orm hibernate-core 7.0.0.Final

apparently any version which I was previously using had given me a ClassnotfoundException, but with these it seems to work. FYI : I am migrating to JDK 17 as part of the the spring upgrades.

Thanks for letting us know. Migrating to Boot 3 implies a migration to Jakarta EE 10 and JPA 3.1.

It is likely easier to use the JPA starter instead of pulling in JPA 3.2, Transaction and Hibernate into your project yourself.

Please also note that, while using JPA 3.2 and Hibernate 7 are likely to work well, Spring Boot's baseline is JPA 3.1 with Hibernate 6.x and therefore, using the starter will give you directly managed and compatible versions of all required artifacts instead of you having to search which version is compatible.
