EV charging query #2588
-
I am in the UK and have a Hypervolt charger and am using Octopus Go (IOG not supported). So I get cheap slots overnight. The charger is wired up so that it can't see the solar battery, so should always charge from the grid. I know I can configure Predbat to let it know about my charger and when it may be active. However I am curious as to what exactly happens if I don't tell Predbat about the charger at all. At the moment Predbat spends the night alternately charging and discharging the battery. So what happens if I schedule my car to charge overnight? I guess that if the solar battery is charging this isn't a problem, but when the solar battery is set to discharge, then it won't be possible to both export to the grid, and also import from the grid to feed the EV charger. So what happens then? |

If predbat has no awareness of your EV charger then it will continue to charge and discharge your battery to maximise your income. You have one set of grid wires coming into your house. The electricity can only flow in one direction, in or out of your house. If your EV charger starts charging when predbat is discharging the battery, the EV will charge from your battery discharge. If the battery discharge is greater than the EV charge rate the excess will be exported. If the battery discharge is less than the EV charge rate then the excess will be imported. This probably isn't what you want! |
