Thanks for the report. I can reproduce this and I agree it is a bug so hopefully we will be able to fix this at some point. In the meantime, you can open a new console which will be connected to the new kernel.

For other people (or future me) reading this issue: in step 3 of the bug report, restarting the kernel should be done in the notebook.

PR #482 fixes part of the problem. The console now remains connected to the kernel after restarting it and you can interact with it. However, there is still no new prompt after restarting, so it is not clear that you can input commands.
