As asked here #738, here is the separate benchmark pull request.

This PR contains a benchmark project with a few scenarios, documentation about how to use it, and the necessary gitignores to work with it.

Also, changed the simple benchmark run to the benchmark switcher, so if more benchmark is added, you can select which to run.
