Override nav items on specific tab

Hi, I'm planning to remove some tabs from the top but add those same on the nav items.
#3405 Helped me understand how to override them but how can I identify that Index tab is active right now so that I can show hardcoded nav items on the left menu.

Also, do I have to manage both of them separately or is there any way to co-relate them, basically: hidden tabs will show up on nav items on Index tab.
