Search: find MathJax greek characters

Hi everyone,

I'm working on this website and if you scroll down in the linked table, some of the letters are greek letters rendered by MathJax. This website is to be used as a reference tool by DCE/DSC-MRI scientists and we often use greek letters to refer to quantities (uncertainty sigma, susceptibility chi etc.). It would be useful if searching for chi or \chi would bring up the table rows containing those characters. Is it possible to configure the search function/MathJax to achieve this functionality?

It would also be helpful if the hierarchy of results was ordered based on the columns (first show me if my search word is found in OSIPI name column, then show me the result with the word in Description) but I don't know if that's feasible.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi, thanks for reaching out. Have a look at #4654.

In addition, @squidfunk is working hard on a brand-new implementation of the search function. If this is not super-urgent for you then I would recommend to simply sit tight and wait for this to be released. If it does not solve the problem then we can come back to it.

I see. That's unfortunate. I saw his post about working on a new search function but didn't see #4654. Thank you, I will add a note to the webpage and hope that the current search function will be good enough for now. On the other hand, any ideas about the second question?

I think the second question falls squarely into the "dunno" category.

I do wonder, through, if there is not another way of looking at the problem. Have you asked the MathsJax community about searching sites using mathematical constructs? I guess you might want to look for things like ΔR∗2,j or such? If you find out how this is done in general then it might be easier to see if this can be accommodated in Material's search - present of future. It would be good to see where such functionality is already implemented. Wolfram Research?
