Restore "slate" theme from 9.0.5

Hi. I updated from 9.0.5 to the latest 9.5.50 and the dark mode colors became mach darker and unusable.

Is there a way to completely restore the dark theme from 9.0.5?

Yes, you can just use the styles from 9.0.5., overriding the built-in styles with some additional CSS ☺️ Additionally, see #6061

You would need to do what I would also need to do: analyze the differences in colors between those versions, then override the CSS variables you want to change in a separate file. I'm afraid I can't offer you a shortcut here.

... or stay on 9.0.5., but you'll be missing our on a lot of new features. I understand that this change is opinionated, but so is this entire project. We can't maintain variations of everything.

@kamilkrzyskow Is it possible to include all theme variables from _scheme.scss? I am not sure how to copy everything into a CSS file.

Sorry for the late reply @steam3d, I was traveling and couldn't respond. The SCSS files is later compiled into CSS, while a lot of the values can be reused and copied over there are certain functions like px2rem hex2hsl, and other syntax that is not available in the final CSS file after compilation. Also the _scheme.scss provides colors for the slate scheme, while there could also be changes in the _colors.scss file of the default scheme, and some of these values could be inherited.

Therefore, my recommendation was to go over a diff of the final main.css file (after formatting it), which I linked before, and compare changes that way. There were 200+ differences, but I'm sure that the ones related to color were far fewer.
I forgot about palette.css which might've contain extra colors, so I omitted it, but still would recommend comparing the diff between the version, over trying to port SCSS into CSS by hand.

Another approach could be creating a fork of the project, where you'd replace the SCSS files related to coloring and recompile it, assuming there were no new variables introduced, then it would simply work. You can read a bit more on this here:
