Status of Redcap support 2025?

Hi,

Regarding the discussions from 2023 (#148) and 2024 (#786), I wanted to ask about the current status of Redcap support in 2025 since I am trying to connect a Redcap module from Fibocom to srsRAN and it didn't work.

I saw in the "Features and Roadmap" that srsRAN is Release 17-aligned, which suggests this should be on the roadmap. Can you confirm if it's now supported?

If it's not, can someone provide a short, high-level list of the missing parts? I've already seen multiple hints of a Redcap implementation in the RRC, F1AP, and NGAP layers, so I'm trying to understand what's left.

After digging into the codebase I think I can give a superficial overview:

Some support for RedCap is already present, but mostly limited to naming and definitions in the ASN.1, F1AP, E1AP, and RRC layers. The actual logic needed to make RedCap work still needs to be implemented.

In particular, the following areas still appear to require implementation:

• Broadcast signaling

  • SIB1 / MIB must explicitly advertise RedCap support.

• Bandwidth Parts (BWPs)

  • RedCap-specific initial DL/UL BWPs logic needs to be implemented.

• MAC Scheduler

  • Scheduling logic for RedCap UEs is missing (single-layer MIMO, capped modulation ≤64QAM).

• RRC handling

  • RRCSetup and RRCReconfiguration paths need RedCap-specific options to be added.

So, at the current stage, the framework and placeholders exist, but most of the functional pieces still need to be built.

I also hope for REDCAP's support.
Once communication is possible with the B210, I will purchase a UE and test it.

Yeah I tried srsRAN with B210 and a Fibocom Redcap module, didn't work. But with OAI basic connection with Redcap works.

Which CORE did you use for OAI verification?
Did you use the RG255CGL00AB-4M2-M20AA module for connection testing?
I'm having trouble deciding.
Which should I choose: SIMCOM SIM8230G-M2 or RG255CGL00AB-4M2?

I used OAI core and OAI RAN to make the connection happen. I used a Fibocom FG 132 module, but I assume most professional redcap modules should work. What are you trying to achieve?

For me, just being able to communicate with REDCAP in an OSS environment was big news.
I'm thinking of purchasing it on AliExpress.
When purchasing as an individual, it can be difficult to obtain samples or support from the manufacturer.
Considering their track record, the RG255CGL and SIM8230C-M2 are also hard to give up.
