Starcoin DAG-Net Mining Guide

Build from Source

Prerequisites

• Platform: PC with Windows, macOS, or Linux.
• Operating System: Ensure you have a compatible version (e.g., Windows 10, macOS Catalina, Ubuntu 20.04).
• Required Software:
  • Git: For source code management.
  • Rust and Cargo: For compiling the source code.

Steps

1. Open Terminal:

   • Windows: Open Command Prompt or PowerShell.
   • macOS/Linux: Open the Terminal application.

2. Clone the Repository:

   git clone https://github.com/starcoinorg/starcoin.git

3. Switch to the Desired Branch:

   git checkout origin/dag-test-net:
   

4. Build from source :

   cargo build --release
   

Download from Release

Direct Download:

• Visit the Starcoin Release Page.
• Choose the appropriate version for your operating system.
• Download and extract the release files to a known directory.

Start Node & Join DAG Network for Mining

# Setting the miner client thread number to 4
./target/debug/starcoin -n dag-net:24--genesis-config  halley --miner-thread 4 console

Check chain status

starcoin% chain info

Now we can join dag-net for mining in public p2p network

• Connect to the seed

./starcoin -n dag-net:24 --genesis-config  halley   --seed /ip4/139.59.110.185/tcp/9840/p2p/12D3KooWEXmxsqvjaQj5ChB8ckaRAyYfGBjSHoo3byBV1BjpJGbK  console

• Check node state

starcoin% node network state

• Checkout the balance mint with account

Yes, At least one x86 computer is required, with 1 GB of RAM and a 1-core CPU.

Yes, we can use stc box,the hash algorithm of miner is the same as starcoin 1.0, and it also supports the same stratum protocol.

you can use https protocol to clone,instead of ssh protocol: git clone https://github.com/starcoinorg/starcoin.git

It's a bug for creating a system directory on windows, we will fix it on next version, please try starcoin on macos or linux currently.

i get wrong output for ./starcoin_miner --user -n 10

loads up into console but no mining output, htop indicates cpu not doing much

The node can start minting after synchronizing all blocks， please check the synchronization status.

I know yoy gave confirmation about mining with stc box but, do you think with those extra settings needed above. It still works because in the goldshell stc box you cannot set anything accept pool and user and password

stc box need use stratum protocol for mining. Try setting --stratum-address and --stratum-port for starcoin node.
