In implies your songs will not be broken by plugins (which might not work with your latest OS).
To extrapolate on that, considering adding fluidsynth as a soundfont-player might be a good fit.
SF2 Soundfonts are still going strong (check polyphone editor or Konfyt), and might be inline with Stargate's goals.
