If you need to preregister a research project based on observational
17+
data online to be able to upload an analysis plan, analysis code, or
18+
other files or pre-defined plans, you can do it at Open Science
19+
Framework (OSF): [OSF Registries](https://osf.io/registries/). If
20+
instead you are looking to register a clinical trial you should go to
21+
[clinicaltrials.gov](https://clinicaltrials.gov/)---here we only
22+
consider OSF registrations. After registering at OSF, you can upload
23+
results and preprints if necessary as well as other things. In this way,
24+
OSF can be thought of as a public logbook for your research project.

## Introduction and overview of OSF
27+
28+
To get an overview of OSF Registries, you can read more about the
29+
possibilities and how to create an account here (including videos with
30+
help and instructions): [OSF Support](https://help.osf.io/)
31+

## Creating a preregistration at OSF
37+
38+
First step for a preregistration is to select a template. You can read
39+
more about the different templates here: [Select a Registration
40+
Template - OSF
41+
Support](https://help.osf.io/article/229-select-a-registration-template)
42+
43+
The general template "OSF Preregistration" will work for many projects.
44+
The template "Secondary Data Preregistration" is also useful, when data
45+
have previously been collected for other purposes.
46+
47+
When making a preregistration, you can select a copyright license for
48+
the project. Other projects have previously used "CC-By Attribution 4.0
49+
International". With this license, others can use and refer to the
50+
content in the registration, as long as they credit/reference the
51+
original work. Read more about licensing here: [Licensing - OSF
52+
Support](https://help.osf.io/article/148-licensing)
53+
54+
If you want to see an example of preregistration with analysis plan for
55+
a project based at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus consider the following:

57+
Programme Based on Register Data](https://osf.io/79usw/)
