Seeking additional system info

After reading the code, I'm wondering if there's any additional info on these two topics, below.

• gdb-server.c processes commands sent to the server over TCP.
  The packet's first character specifies the command, e.g., 'm' reads memory, 'M' writes memory.
  Is there any info on these commands, and what client sends them?

• The backend in gdb-server.c sends commands to the adapter, and gets replies.
  commands.h lists the commands.
  Is there any additional info on these commands?
  Are they ST-Link internals, learned from reverse engineering the adapter?

BTW: I'm researching how ST-LINK works, and this stlink repo has been very helpful, thanks!

For the first question, it looks like the commands are in RSP format.
RSP is GDB Remote Serial Protocol.
