Unread count when more than 100 items are unread

When troelsbay was starting this app, I showed him a Firefox extension that got an accurate count of unread items, even if they were over 1000. It worked like that through 1.09, but versions since then only display 1000 if I have more than 1000 unread. Any suggestions on how to get the old behavior with the new versions, please?
