Calculate distance to nearest public transit stop

On a few occasions people have suggested that we include the distance to the nearest public transit stop for each meeting location.

I don't really have a clue how we would do that. First step is to figure out how difficult that would be.

Calling this a discussion item until someone either comes up with a plan on how to implement this feature or volunteers to figure it out.

The following URL retrieves the transit stations nearest to 45 N 93 W.

https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/place/nearbysearch/json?location=45,-93&rankby=distance&type=transit_station&key=YOUR_API_KEY

The request must be performed on the server, not the browser, due to the same-origin policy. It requires an API key, which can be obtained at https://developers.google.com/places/web-service/get-api-key. I can provide code to look up a list of addresses.
