Selecting Digital Surround 5.1 causes severe distortion, while Analog Stereo and Digital Stereo works fine.

This can be be very obvious but when I connect my Corsair Void the system exposes multiple output profiles:

• Analog Stereo Output + Mono Input
• Analog Stereo Output
• Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output + Mono
• Input Digital Stereo (IEC958)
• Output Digital Surround 5.1 (IEC958/AC3) Output + Mono
• Input Digital Surround 5.1 (IEC958/AC3) Output
  When i go for Digital Surround it starts to sound noise but like glichy. I dont know if there is some way to hide those option because the first time I clicked my ears almost explode.

OS: Debian 12
Audio Server: Server Name: PulseAudio (on PipeWire 1.4.2)
Kernel: 6.12.43+deb12-amd64

Are you using the wired Corsair Void headphones? If that's the case, unfortunately I only have a wireless pair for testing.

Does it still do that if you reboot with hid-corsair-void blacklisted? This driver doesn't really tamper with the audio side of things so it shouldn't really make a difference, but it'll rule out it being a problem introduced by this driver. Perhaps the generic audio drivers need a quirk for your headset?

If it still happens with this driver blacklisted, I'd suggest reporting it to the kernel's bug tracker under an audio driver, they'll have a better idea of what to do.

Unrelated, but if you do have a wired headset, could you test the set_sidetone attribute for me please? I've had a hard time getting hardware to test that with, I only managed some brief testing on one model before.

Thanks for the explanation. I’m using the wireless Corsair Void, not wired, so I can’t test set_sidetone.
I’ll test with hid-corsair-void blacklisted and follow up if there’s anything to report.

I've got the same options on my wireless one, but only "Analog Stereo Output + Mono Input" and "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output + Mono" show up in GUI tools for me, maybe there's a reason the tools filter out the other options?

I'm not really a sound guy, I made this by poking the hardware with Wireshark. I did notice the kernel gave some warnings from the audio drivers when I plugged a wired Corsair Void in, perhaps Corsair's audio data is a bit quirky?

Yeah, I’m not sure why it doesn’t filter those profiles, but it’s fine — I’ll just avoid clicking them. I’m not really a kernel or audio guy, though it’s interesting stuff. Maybe something will come out of it someday.
