Sadly, the behaviour is no different in 2.8.1. Since you guys seem to be a bit more active in the project, maybe you can fix this

I think you have a valid use-case. I can't promise that we implement it though, because we use the lib only for serialization. But if you provide a PR, I'd be happy to work with you on this.
