Feature Request: Hover Preview for Internal Hyperlinks (Equations, Figures, and Citations)

I would like to suggest a "Link Preview" feature similar to the one found in the Zotero PDF reader or Overleaf. When hovering the mouse over an internal hyperlink (such as a reference to an equation, figure, or bibliographic entry), a small pop-up window should appear showing the content of the target location.

Currently, in SumatraPDF, clicking a reference (e.g., "See Eq. 15") jumps the view to that equation. To return to the original text, the user must use a keyboard shortcut or manually scroll back. This disrupts the cognitive flow during scientific research, where frequent cross-referencing is necessary.

SumatraPDF is already the best, most lightweight reader for scientific research. Adding this feature would put it on par with specialized academic tools like Zotero’s built-in viewer.

Such "quick views" are actually fairly complex as PDF has many different yet similar "modal" features in more complex readers. There are several open issues requesting the same, but nobody has offered to devote that much time and coding.

See as just one example #1198 but there are others
Whilst that above example is JavaScript Driven (not currently a priority for MuPDF features)
some may be simpler floating modals to show a page linked by a "goto" and that is still complex need for a pop-out secondary full rendering.
