- The Year Agents ate Search
- Up until 2024, the normal search paradigm was taking a query, retrieving, ranking, and outputting in one simple pipeline run to return the best results within a latency budget. When RAG came along, LLMs were mostly glued ontop of normal retrieval and search processes, usually with embedding vectors for "neural search", and that was mostly that. But something changed in 2025. Agents have completely eaten Search. We started the year with lots of excitement about Deep Research, but then interesting search paradigms from Exa's Websets to Perplexity's agents have started to broaden agentic search into more and more form factors. Even in well known coding agents like Claude Code, Devin and Cline, what used to be extensive codebase indexing has now given way to given an agent simple tools to search the codebase like a human would. What happened?

- title: Always Be Pair Programming
- description: AI agents and sync paradigms are natural complements because local-first is multiplayer by default, and agents are another sort of “player” in addition to human collaborators. Having all changes be visible, diffable, and auditable by the human in charge of the document is a perfect fit.

- GPT5 is a better frontend coder than me, and Cerebras Code is a 10x faster coder than me. But "generative UI" is mostly still stuck in a paradigm of function calling premade widgets. New, fast, coding oriented models create new opportunities for creating truly personal, customized experiences, without the offsetting concern that people want their apps to stay stable and reliable.
