Reporting from Homebox

I moved my home inventory data from HomeZada to Homebox on a TrueNAS scale system. The base text is there so now. I still have to add the 600+ photos and documents to each item since they don't export or import with the text fields.

Before I do all of that I am trying to figure out a way to print a report of each item that includes the attached photos and documents. This would be used with my insurance company in case of a disaster.

Do any of you use a reporting tool with Homebox? If so which one and have you find it possible to pull the text, images and attached documents into a report like the one I need? I tried DBeaver, but then I'd still need to pull the resulting CSV file into a report. I am looking for something that will do the whole job from either a docker Truenas container or from my Linux desktop.

Fair enough. If you are willing to try it yourself though, the gist of what you would need to do would be:

1. Login to the site via the /v1/users/login endpoint to get an auth token (if you are on Swagger, you need to put the token into the auth box once you get it).
2. Query all items by using the /v1/items endpoint.
3. Extract the attachment id and item id from the response, then send a request /v1/items/{id}/attachments/{attachment_id} to get the link to the attachment.
4. Download the attachment.
5. Merge all the data into some sort of report (possibly a PDF?). The specifics of that though will vary by what type of report you want and what language/libraries you use.
6. When you are done, call /v1/users/logout.

The swagger links I gave should let you play around with the data on the demo site. That said, some AI coding assistant can probably get you most of the way there.

Otherwise I have not actually seen any built in way to generate a report beyond the CSV export. But I am also fairly new to HomeBox myself.

You are welcome. Also a quick note, it looks like I missed a step. The /v1/items endpoint does not return all of the attachment ids. Only the primary photo. So you just need to send a request in between steps 2 and 3 to get the list of attachments for an item by sending a request to /v1/items/{id} with the item id you get from step 2.

I also agree, that this is a nicer approach than using SQL.
