Is there support for multiple currencies?

I have items that were purchased in different currencies, and would like to keep inventory of them with the proper currency. I'm not expecting conversion or anything like that. My group default is set to ZAR. I have a currencies.json structured as below, but I don't seem to be able to change currencies for items (though I may well have misunderstood the purpose of that file).

We do not currently support entering multiple currencies, the currency selection in the profile area is the sole currency in use by the application.
