I am thinking of using a white Duck tape and writing on it using a Sharpie instead. I think it might be a more consistent looking label and readable in dark places |

I have a small cache of paint markers in white and black to label my totes. I find it more durable that marker. The paint can run so test before writing on your object to be labeled. |

Some interesting discussions lately about different barcode symbologies (etc) but.....a note to remember the utility of the humble permanent marker/ Sharpie!
I use mine to scratch asset numbers onto things that stickers etc aren't going to adhere to (including those which will be exposed to elements) - or in other cases where affixing labels or tags just doesn't make sense or isn't practical.
Like:

Cleaning supplies:
Cases I can never remember what they belong to
Very useful as well: White permanent marker:.
Useful for writing asset numbers on black surfaces, like...tool boxes:
