I just had to restart my Google Home Mini

I know this is probably nothing - just putting it here in case I get a bunch of "me too"s.

Yesterday morning my HA Core updated to 2025.3.3. Yesterday evening my Google automation to turn on some lights at sunset failed. I poked around a little and found that I could no longer control any of my HA devices from Google. BUT, I could see their status - as I turned the lights on/off in HA their status was correctly and quickly reflected in Google Home. It was not just lights - my front door lock was the same.

I restarted HA and nothing changed. I restarted my Google Home Mini and everything is back to normal. I see nothing alarming in the bridge logs at this time but, honestly, I probably wouldn't recognise it if it was there.

Sounds more like a one-time connectivity problem.

Just out of curiosity:
Why don't you create the automation in Home Assistant? Isn't it easier and way more reliable to use Home Assistant to be the Single Source of Truth & Control, and to only expose those entities to Google, which are needed for voice commands or displays?

Agree it sounds like a one-off - it has not happened since.

Because I have two Sengled lights that were already in Google Home, and running a simple automation to turn on at sunset, before I started with Home Assistant. Once I exposed my other lights to Google using Matter it just seemed easiest to add them to the existing automation. Also, the Sengled integration for Home Assistant uses their cloud service and I'm trying avoid cloud to control anything in Home Assistant - so these two lights are not available there. I know there are contradictions in that logic - it's just the way it worked out.

Not at all - that's why I said that I know there are contradictions in that logic 😀 But, I'll defend it by saying that Google is cloud anyway so adding Sengled cloud to Google cloud is not really making things worse and this way I get to keep my Home Assistant cloud free.
