Some lights and covers stopped working – "Device is unresponsive" or no controls shown

Hi there,

I’ve been using the MatterHub (Home Assistant Add-on) successfully for a while, and everything worked perfectly during the initial setup. I had 61 KNX devices (lights and covers) exposed via the bridge and integrated with Alexa. All devices were functional, and the controls showed up correctly in the Alexa app.

However, recently (possibly after an update), some devices started failing without any apparent reason.
Symptoms:

Some lights show the error:

    “A problem occurred”

    “Device is unresponsive”

These lights no longer show the on/off toggle in the Alexa app device list.

Some covers (jalousies) show no position slider when opened in Alexa, only a generic information page with integration details.

The issue affects only some devices – others still work fine.

What I’ve tried:

Deleted the bridge from Alexa completely

Removed and re-added the bridge using the same pairing code

Re-exposed all devices from scratch

Rebooted the MatterHub Add-on and Home Assistant

Unfortunately, the broken devices remain broken even after re-pairing. The same devices always fail, while others remain stable.

This was never an issue before – it only started happening after some time or possibly an update. I haven’t changed anything in my KNX or HA config.
Setup:

MatterHub via Home Assistant Add-on

61 devices exposed (KNX)

Alexa as Matter controller (connected via Fabric on UDP port 5540)

Home Assistant and Alexa are on the same subnet

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if logs or JSON exports would help. Thanks in advance!

I have the same issues here:

• 17 devices exposed
• 7 devices not working anymore: no on/off-button in the device list and/or „A problem occured“

For some devices a removal in the matter hub and new addition solved the problem temporarily. For some devices not. After one day some of the newly added deviced showed the problem again.

PS: And ideally "as simple devices as possible" ... because of there might still be a chance that a certain device type is the reason ...

True. I already have invested several days for troubleshooting. Anyway, I send you an e-mail with what I already have.

If you go into the Matter Hub "device" in the Alexa app on your phone, do you see the Echo "Connected via" changing every 30 seconds when you go back into the device? Do you see the discovered devices in the Devices screen just come and go at random every 15 seconds or so? This is what I'm seeing with just 2 lights and a switch -- very unstable overall. (New install HA 2025.5.1)

No, I do not see the change of „Connected via“ in the device „Matter Bridge“ in the Alexa app. Also no random changes in the device screen without a restart of the app in the past. Presently there are no more changes.
(I am still using HA 2025.4.4)

So you asked Amazon to check the reasons and they said they do an update? ;-) Sorry but I doubt ...

As I have written in one of the other issues, we need a clear way to repro the issues with Alexa and report to Amazon so that we get an understand on whats up

Hi again,
I installed the latest update. I deleted everything from Alexa and the Matter Hub. I unplugged all Alexa devices except one. Then I re-added the devices with the label and re-paired them in Alexa using the QR code. The error message during pairing – I think it was RN002 – still appears. All devices were found, but many of them are once again non-functional. When I first set this up, everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately, it’s no longer usable now.

Thank you for your testing efforts. I switched to the HA Cloud in the meantime and Alexa works flawlessly since then.

I've been using Matterhub since the beginning.
Everything worked perfectly until recently.
Even all the helpers that I had created in HA.
A week ago, I noticed that some helpers were suddenly displayed twice in Alexa, but some of them didn't work. After I completely deleted the Matter Bridge in HA and reconnected it to Alexa, all devices were found correctly by Alexa, but none of them worked anymore. The voice command ‘Device on’ is now always followed by the message ‘Device does not support this’....
Before I reconnected the bridge with the devices, the devices previously created in matterhub still worked with Alexa.

Which Matter Hub version do you use? 3.0.0-alpha.85 introduced a bug fix for Alexa. Today 3.0.0-alpha.86 was published.

I had auto-update on.
As I wrote the text above, maybe alpha.85 was installed, now it is alpha.86. But it still don`t work.
Ten minutes ago, I re-started the bridge. An I advice Alexa to search for new devices. Result, now most of the Devices are doubled in Alexa, but no Device work...

Thanks for the warning. I was just about to reinstall the Matter Bridge, but now I will stick with the Nabu Casa Cloud solution for the time being, which still works fine.

Same from my side. Alpha 6x was okay, then the above described problem. I removed the bridge several times, lowered the number of devices ... a few hours later, probably a day and then devices are no longer responding. Sometimes it helped to switch off all Echo devices, sometimes not.

I switched back to emulated_hue for now since I don't want to invest in an everyday reset.

same issue here. I'm on version alpha 68. in the documentation under ecosystem it is stated that endpoint 1 is needed. I checked when setting up. All devices which were automatically configured with endpoint 0 hat the message "There was a problem" in the Alexa app. The few that somehow had endpoint 1 worked fine. Is there a way to have them permanently creating an endpoint 1 when connecting to Alexa?

Having similar symptoms.
When I first set up MatterHub is worked good, although some devices were shown multiple times in Alexa and/or kept showing up as "new device". Also, Alexa kept saying that " is not responding" although it worked perfectly, e.g. when I told Alexa to turn off a light.
However, today I added some more Shellys as cover controller and wasn't able to add them. I removed the whole bridge, deleted all devices in Alexa (therefore I unplugged all Alexa-Devices except for 1 Echo in the living room). However, after setting everything up again, ALexa immediatelly finds all devices, but non of the are working (even lights).

I'm using alpha.87 and didn't update the last days. So it was working with that version.
