Kernel version 6.17.5 broke my keyboard

I have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro running T2-Mint (dual boot with some version of MacOS).

Yesterday I upgraded from kernel 6.17.4-1-t2-noble to 6.17.5-1-t2-noble. When starting my computer today, the keyboard worked in GRUB, but didn't work in Mint. Restarting didn't help. I tried resetting my keyboard with:

modprobe -r atkbd
modprobe atkbd reset=1

This did not help. I also tried resetting USB devices:

    eval "echo 1 > $USB"
done

This just disabled my trackpad.

I rebooted into MacOS and the keyboard worked fine. I rebooted into Mint with kernel 6.17.4-1-t2-noble and the keyboard worked fine. I uninstalled 6.17.5 and froze 6.17.4 :

sudo apt remove linux-image-6.17.5-1-t2-noble
sudo apt-mark hold 6.17.4-1-t2-noble

I then restarted and everything is still working fine.

Should I downgrade the linux-t2 package to 6.17.4-1-noble as well ? I'm not sure what it does.

Also, is the keyboard you are referring to an external keyboard or your Mac's internal keyboard?

I am referring to the internal keyboard. I forgot to mention, I plugged an external keyboard in and it worked.

I was able to share the journalctl logs from when I had 6.17.5 installed, but I would need to reinstall the 6.17.5 kernel for lsmod (right?) which I have removed from my system. I'm quite busy, I'll get to it when I can.

I'm having problems with my macbook's battery. Hopefully it's unrelated to linux (it also happens on MacOS). I would like to help more, but I have enough on my plate as is and can't afford to purposefully re-break my install for the foreseeable future.

I have tested a 6.17.5 kernel recently and I didn't get any problems with the keyboard. As far as battery is concerned, nothing much can be done honestly. It's just bad on Linux.

For your keyboard you can at best try upgrading to 6.17.7 and hope the thing got resolved. You can also share dkms status from any kernel to verify if there is any mistake on your side.

I upgraded to 6.17.7 and the problem persists. You'll find the logs you asked for attached, all acquired today on 6.17.7. I'll keep 6.17.7 installed and boot from 6.17.4 in GRUB for now, so feel free to ask if you need anything else.

dkms status yields the same result on 6.17.4 and 6.17.7.

All logs look good. I'm not really sure what's wrong since I am unable to reproduce the issue on my MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019
