Tabs: Anyway to not have an initially selected tab.

Is there anyway to not have an initially selected tab. I have a list of items I want to display. When you click on an item, it slides open a panel with more details. If you select other items, it updates the details with the newly selected item. Using tabs, I get the keyboard functionality and accessibility that I like, but I don't want an initial tab selected.
