TailwindCSS Standalone executables (via Mise-en-Place) for Linux, macOS, and Windows

I primarily use mise-en-place, so I can easily provide a demonstration for that, but the process is quite similar when using ubi.

First, install the version manager:

Next, install it as a TailwindCSS alias to avoid constantly using the long backend reference.

mise plugin rm tailwindcss
mise config set tool_alias.tailwindcss github:tailwindlabs/tailwindcss

Now, you can browse official tailwindlabs/tailwindcss releases (without 3rd manipulation) under the name tailwindcss and install major, minor, or patch versions either globally or project-specifically.

# Install and set globally selected TailwindCSS version
mise use -g tailwindcss@4

# Install and set locally selected TailwindCSS version (for current directory)
mise use tailwindcss@4

# Reference to the absolute latest version
mise use tailwindcss@latest

# Reference to the latest stable v4
mise use tailwindcss@4

# Reference to the latest stable v3 (for compatibility)
mise use tailwindcss@3

# Reference to a specific patch version
mise use tailwindcss@3.4.15

# Check installed TailwindCSS versions
mise ls tailwindcss

Regardless of the version, the command remains the same:

# For development (runs until you stop it)
tailwindcss -i input.css -o output.css --watch

# For production (runs once)
tailwindcss -i input.css -o output.css
