Embrace github versioning

As the standards evolves over time there need to be distinct versions.
This can be efficiently achieved by embracing Github and doing proper tagged releases - maybe even with Zenodo DOIs.

This is a very good point, thanks. Versioning and crosswalks will need to be put in place once the versions are formally endorsed and released. We are already experimenting with Zenodo to assign DOIs to the standard’s units, which should help support citation, traceability, and long-term maintenance.
