Latin International shuud have all IPA simbols

Which characters do you want? I don't know where to put all IPA characters, and the layout also seems to be taking enough RAM for the app to be killed in the background, so I don't think I can just add everything at the moment, without some optimization.

@HiGein Thanks for being interested in this project. Currently layouts are defined in InBuiltLayouts.kt (I know, not the best idea). You can add a new Layout to val layouts which is a List of layouts. You can look at some of the layouts in the list to understand the system, if you have any further questions feel free to ask me.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could make a layout for IPA.

However, having a nice IPA layout on the phone is necessary.

It would be almost impossible to place all the characters at once on the keyboard (probably, possible, but definitely impractical). I've noticed that there are some extra features in the example layouts which can be helpful. However, I need to understand, what do they do.

Could you please clarify regarding the following features?

• capsLayer
• bottomRowKey
• combiner
• swipeList
• otherLayers
• moveLayerKeys
• decoupleRows

BTW, looking on the Latin International which might be a great base for the IPA layout.

P.S. it looks like a lot of effort was put to build all these layouts. May I ask just out of curiosity if you were using some another codebase for this?

• capsLayer overrides shift/caps, so you can make shift+g return ɢ for example.
• bottomRowKey adds an extra key in the bottom row.
• combiner is for input with complex rules, for complex scripts like Korean.
• swipeList is for swipe keys, so for example:

swipeList = listOf(
        Pair("a", SwipeKeys(up = Key("ā"), left = Key("ä"), right = Key("ǟ"))),
        Pair("c", SwipeKeys(up = Key("č"))),
}

This makes it so that swiping up, left, right on the a key would result in ā, ä, ǟ respectively being typed, and swiping up on the c key results in č being typed.

• otherLayers is a list of extra layers, moveLayerKeys is a list of keys that trigger a change to these layers. The first moveLayerKey triggers the first otherLayer and so on.
• decoupleRows is a list of indices of rows (counted from the top) that "spreads out" the rows.
  For example, if there are 5 keys in row 0 and 10 keys in row 1, normally it would look somewhat like this:

     á é í ó ú     
q w e r t y u i o p

But if decoupleRows = listOf(0) it would look like this:

 á   é   í   ó   ú
q w e r t y u i o p

Honestly, a lot of these are just bad workarounds and I need to clean up the layout system to simplify them.

I used this codebase to get an IME working on Android, the rest (layouts, etc) were made by me, being based on existing layouts on other keyboard applications or PC layouts. I don't like other keyboards on Android when it comes to other languages, they hide letters behind long presses which does not make typing easy.
