[General]: Proot-distro extreme slowdown after updating to Samsung's Android 16 release, affecting all desktop environments

Description

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 with 12GB of RAM. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

After the update (even after deleting my Termux install and starting over), proot-distro is extremely slow. It is slow to initiate a desktop environment in Termux:X11, it is slow to run Firefox. On Android 15, everything was extremely fast. I have tried Debian Trixie with XFCE4, I have tried the latest Ubuntu with Mate. Same results. A network speed test comes back as typical. Firefox lags so much that a page will begin to load before Darkreader can make it dark, for example. Images take a long time to render. There seems to be something holding the system back. I have turned off limit child processes in developer settings.

Is this affecting just Samsung devices, or is it widespread?

Web browsers and vscode on the debian proot-distro is too slow to use.

I found a workaround for now. Native Termux desktop environment is much faster than proot-distro on the latest Samsung update. See here: https://github.com/arfshl/termux-desktop. Only use XFCE4. I tried other desktops and they either didn't work or were slow (like Cinnamon).

Thanks for reporting, im on Samsung but didn't yet get android 16 update, if the update is slowing down entire proot-distro (i mean, all distros are effected), then this is may one of bug on proot utility

I'm experiencing the same issue on Galaxy S24 FE. Version is one ui 8.0. Everything is extremely slow.

seems android 16 killed proot, I hope there will be a better workaround soon (having termux window in split screen helps)
