How to create packageDatabase.json?

I installed python on windows and in msys. In both cases running the script generateDB.py shows following messages:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/WDAG/texstudio-org/texstudio/utilities/generateDB.py", line 7, in <module>
    import requests
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'requests'

Line 8 contains similar instruction import json. What are the steps needed?

Traditionally,

$ pip install requests

which installs user-wide Python library requests.

Modern alternative, needs uv

$ uv run --with requests generateDB.py

which runs generateDB.py with requests library in a virtual environment. See more info in https://docs.astral.sh/uv/guides/scripts/#running-a-script-with-dependencies.

json is provided by the Python Standard Library, so no extra action is needed.

thanks. I'm not sure how to proceed. I use windows with msys installed. Using pacman -Suy requests doesn't work (target not found).

pip is the standard package installer for Python, which is usually automatically installed along with Python (interpreter).

If python -m pip install requests doesn't work either, then you may need to install pip manually, see https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/installation/#get-pip-py.

msys2 -> pacman -Syu mingw-w64-python-requests

I didn't mention that I use msys2 UCRT64 console. So I need pacman -Suy mingw-w64-ucrt-x86_64-python-requests. Then python generateDB.py does the job in about 10 minutes.
